My learning with 100 Ted talks

We were small accounting group. Learning through corporate way was tedious. So, I decided to train  my subordinates by showing them TED talks every fortnightly. It was just 15 minutes journey with English subtitles (every week). We took breaks from regular work and sat in closed room to listen world’s best experts. Listening TED with group, it has huge impact on our life. We are more learned and awake.

Every employee is different. We have different needs. Normal shools have failed to fill that gap especially emotional needs.

Success or failure is a mind game. School education is mainly based on facts or rational mind. Emotional strength comes from society. World is moving from rational data based memory to emotional strength for success.

Life is tough journey. But clarity or thoughts or choices make it little easy. We practiced this habit of seeing TED for 3.5 years. We are better trained, emotionally connected , and better human, and good worker as a team. Attrition has been zero. And employees were more engaged. Though ,I have left the group and it was painful. Reason of my leaving was regular business cycle and moving to different role.

As a person, now I am more blessed or fulfilled. Learning is our best asset. Every manager can contribute by giving somthing extra. All manager have huge responsibility to develop his people. There are only two ways to get things done, one is motivation and another is fear. Fear is easy. It comes naturally. So most managers use it.

Motivation is difficult tool. And most difficult is keep them energetic for long term. Learning could be one way. It has great impact on our mind. TED Subject should be interesting. Choose wisely. People should think this is their problem. Leaving them better trained or educated is a precious feeling. I will continue same if I get opportunity again to work as a manager of a team.
