#Metoo has arrived in India. It is heart-warming that girls are coming out. They are vomiting emotional secrets. It is not easy. It requires courage (lot of courage). Being vulnerable in front of one person is easy but in front of whole society needs big hearts. Salute to the girls who are coming out boldly.
I have some apprehension too. It should not become easy tool to spoil someone’s reputation. It takes a lot to build a reputation. Most of the girl are coming out when man is not in power and lost his influence. We are in extreme feminism era where it is getting very hard for a man to defend. In most of the cases, rape or molestation, a girl can attack and run. Man suffers in long legal battle. In this whole process, he not only lose his social reputation, also a family loses its peace.
Sexual harassment is real. This needs to address. Talent is not gender specific. It is also true that a girl has to suffer a lot in journey. We all want success and mostly success is in man’ hand now. On other side, girl is angry and fearless. She wants to grow.
Problem here is both gender have different wiring and specialities. Skill set is different. In fact, women I better equipped and supreme in all areas. Most power centres are being run by women from backseat.
My apprehension is limited to give rights to man to speak his story. One sided story is always bad. Girls are not right all the time. Crime is not gender specific. Many time no touch happens and man lose his credibility for whole life. Male suicides, depression and blood pressure are also reality of this world. They also need care and listening.
Flirting is natural and it happens from both sides. It can’t and should not be taken as harassment. Gender equality can’t be built by supressing another sex. Indian legal system provides 20-30 legal IPC to women and not a single to a man. It is not fair. A senior judge recently commented that Indian constitution is feminism by heart. It is based on equality. Judge and we all should read the spirit right.
Tool should be effective and bring equality. Spreading mud all around won’t help. It will just ignite rumours and will leave behind broken families. Mostly it will have widespread perception that all men are rapist.
