India’s youngster should work 70 hours a week. Narayan Murthy floated this idea to combat challenges in growing economy. It revived old debate of HARD work vs SMART work.
No doubt 10% more hard work can take us more forward. Focus is key of the battle. It was never time. Wasting time of employee in travel unwanted meetings, and unnecessary approvals. Lean culture helps to take productivity out of the employees. Just getting employee sit for 8-10 hours has never solved the issue. Flexibility has added more focus and intensity in projects. It never co0mes in mail-mail culture. It comes in war room culture or individual depths.
Job rotation is missing in many organizations. We should try people in different roles, and use them in right job. Even employees don’t know their skill. Only their engagement level in meetings, work and events show that they are engaged and interested in project.
Focus cuts projects and tasks. Main diluters of focus are
1) Distractions
2) Unwanted meetings
3) Too much time
4) Too many choices
Narrow down employee focus in organization. No need to bring more laws, bring more flexibility. Don’t add hours , add focus.
