Why Retirement is so difficult?

Private journey is full of transactions and projects. We jump from one project to another, one company to another in entire time line. That happens in safe zone of private employers. Unaware of many environmental shocks , we live 9 to 5 job and do it consistently over and over.

In end, we find big transition point – THE RETIREMENT. I remember a movie scene from Shawshank Redemption, A Librarian did suicide after retirement. His mind could not accept the change from transaction after transaction to do nothing.

We live for a purpose. Job gives us satisfaction, security and routine. After retirement we loose all three. We are not trained in it. After spending a routine for 20-30 years , we lose sense of risk. Many employees find themselves lost and don’t know how to deal with it. It is less a financial battle more of an emotional fight.

Money gives us freedom. We get regular flow of it and we feel fulfilled. In this unsecure world, we need protection. Most of the jobs in private don’t give after retirement skills. We feel lost.

It is very hard to leave a secure umbrella after 45 years of age. Our mental conditioning is like it. We feel trapped. We count years, weeks, or days. It is true for many private employees, no one hires them because of age. And they lose interest in creating new business, routine, or earning source. More of that loss , I saw in people retired from Army. After 10-18 years of service, they find themselves at loss.

Having purpose is so important. That give us reason to work yet not feeling like work. Growing each day and learning each day gives us reason to smile. Don’t remember any example , when a retired employee has created big empire or a brand.

What is your view about it.. ??
